DATE: Saturday May 30 , 2009 TIME: 9:45am Don't be LATE! LOCATION: Fern Dell Picnic area in Griffith Park 90027.
Use the FERN DELL entrance to Griffith Park where Los Feliz Blvd and Western Ave intersect (details below).
DIRECTIONS: Enter Griffith Park via Fern Dell Drive, it’s the entrance with the little BEAR statue out front near the intersection of Los Feliz Blvd and Western Avenue. Follow Fern Dell Drive about 1/2 mile into the park to reach the large Fern Dell Picnic area parking lot. YOU WILL PASS TRAILS RESTAURANT ON YOUR LEFT and a children’s play area on the right before you reach the lot we are parking in. Our lot is HUGE and it comes up on your left after the PLAY AREA. Meeting note: The parking lot is big, we will meet on the far right hand side. I will be wearing a red baseball cap.
Distance: 5 mile Loop Elevation Gain: 1000 feet Difficulty (6 of 10) – Intermediate ***WEAR HIKING BOOTS! You will need good grip for the way DOWN!!!!!***Time: 2.5-3 hrs Round Trip

We hike through GRIFFITH PARK from the Fern Dell Picnic area up to the highest peak in Hollywood, Mt. Hollywood, passing the infamous HOLLYWOOD sign along the way. We will check out the Captain’s Roost and explore Dante’s peak from the top before we hike down to the Griffith Park Observatory where we will chill for 15 minutes to snack or peak around the exhibits. We finish the hike walking down the Observatory trail on the West and back down through the enchanted Fern Dell woods.
This is a fun hike with LOTS to see and SPECTACULAR views of our great city Los Angeles. Plus if you haven’t been to the Observatory in a while, here is your chance to see it rebuilt!
